Kelrn donates R200,000 to charity!

It has always been a dream of Kelrn Vervoer to become involved with charity. During August 2013 we made the decision to host the first Kelrn MTB Classic on 7 December the same year. From the onset we decided that it will be a family event with entertainment for the kids. The event also coincided with the annual Koeistal Christmas Market where quality, hand-made products are for sale.

The 2013 event was hosted for the benefit of Jannie Roux Children’s Home in Barkly West. The day was a big success with 135 entrants who participated and the large sum of R85,000 was raised in a very short amount of time. Every child received clothing vouchers and the remaining funds was used for equipment.

In 2014 we tackled the project with the fund raising target set at R200,000. The decision was also made to make the event more professional with chip-based time keeping. We bought a large number of chips which stay the property of the Kelrn MTB Classic event, these chips are then issued to entrants at registration and returned after the race. This was a first for any MTB event held in the Northern Cape.

We hosted the event on 15 November 2014 and received 238 entries which was above our wildest expectations. As a result our goal was reached and on 21 February 2015 we donated the amount of R200,000 to the Christina Kiddie Children’s Home. This was the biggest donation that they have received to date.

The goal for 2015 is to focus on a wide spectrum of children’s care and to donate the funds raised to more than one institution.
